D-Link’s DCS-1130 WiFi monitoring camera sends footage to the web

Yeah, it’s kind of creepy, but we’re sure D-Link had the noblest of intentions when crafting the DCS-1130 802.11n Wireless Network Camera. Said device offers paranoid homeowners the chance to login from practically anywhere and view live streams of their camera, and the 16x digital zoom is sure to give you a totally pixelated look at whatever stranger happens to meander around in your yard before moving on. Better still, those who simply can’t go a moment without a look back home can view the live streams on a 3G cellphone, though a wireless router supporting WPS must be involved in the configuration. Mum’s the word on a price, but it should be noted that a wired-only version (DCS-1100) will also be available for those who don’t trust the airwaves.

D-Link’s Xtreme N DIR-685 router is also a digiframe / NAS device

Go ‘head, D-Link, get down with your bad self. Seriously, we can’t remember the last time a router got us all hot and bothered, but this one’s just too wild to not get stoked about. The Xtreme N DIR-685 is hailed as an “all-in-one home network router,” and we’d say it puts a new meaning to “all-in-one.” Aside from handling the normal duties of an 802.11n wireless access point, the device also includes a 3.2-inch LCD for displaying photos and / or widgets. As if that wasn’t zany enough, it also supports both UPnP server functions and BitTorrent downloads. How so, you ask? The twin USB ports on the rear enable users to plug in vanilla external hard drives and essentially convert them into NAS drives, making the data on each accessible over the web. Sadly, no price is mentioned for this conglomerate, but we don’t expect it to come cheap.

Pentax’s Optio P70 and E70 digicams won’t break banks, hearts, or kneecaps

Pentax is kicking its CES festivities into medium gear with a pair of cheapo point-and-shoot digicams that we expect will be a tipping point to a great avalanche of affordable shooters. The $199.95 Optio P70 features a 12-megapixel sensor, can capture 720p video at 15 FPS, ISO from 64 to an astounding 6400 (though only at 5-megapixels), has a 4x zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD display, and comes in silver, white, or red. The E70, meanwhile, sports a 10-megapixel sensor, a 2.4-inch display, 3x zoom, but delivers the same staggering ISO range as the P70 for a slightly more affordable $129.95. Both models feature “Pixel Track Shake Reduction” and face-detection, will be available in February, and have put at least one editor to sleep.

Sakar kicks out new Vivitar cameras, DSLR lenses

Vivitar may not have quite the same fervent fan following as some other camera manufacturers, but it looks like parent company Sakar is doing its best to keep things as Vivitar-y as possible at CES, with it rolling out a trio of new cameras and a few other goodies. Those include the 8.1 megapixel Vivitar V8400P underwater camera, which packs a 2.4-inch LCD and will run you $130, the $250 Vivitar DVR840XHD camcorder, which sports a 5x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD, and some basic media-player functionality, and the barebones Vivitar V8025 (pictured above), which boasts the same 8-megapixel resolution as the underwater cam, plus a touchscreen and an even cheaper $100 price tag. Those that have moved beyond point-and-shoots will also soon be able to pick up a number of new Vivitar Series 1 DSLR lenses, which’ll range in price from $150 to $400, and anyone looking for yet another universal charger will be able to grab Vivitar’s $50 Ultimate Smart LCD Charger, which promises to charge a whole host of devices and, apparently, comes equipped with an LCD.

Samsung debuts H-Series of HD camcorders, first with 64GB SSD

You should’ve known that Canon wouldn’t be able to introduce a new family of HD camcorders without Samsung hitting back with a crew of its own, so it’s with that in mind that we present Samsung’s H-Series. The HMX-H106, HMX-H105, HMX-H104, and HMX-H100 all arrive with Full HD sensors and a Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens with Optical Image Stabilization, but it’s the H106 that really steals the show. Said device is the first Full HD camcorder to incorporate a 64GB SSD within, while the H105 and H104 offer up 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively; as for the H100, you’ll be providing your own SD / SDHC card before anything gets recorded. The whole crew utilizes H.264 compression, meaning that the big daddy can hold 12 hours of footage at Full HD resolution. Mum’s the word on pricing / availability, but the full release is waiting just after the break.
